The Role
Tesla’s Drive Systems Engineering team is seeking an enthusiastic, fast-learning engineer who will be responsible felectrical physical FA of power devices from traction inverters. They will own engineering tasks to keep our production line running– everything from bringing up new vendors to debugging field failures. They will work alongside a team of experienced engineers while utilizing sophisticated failure analysis tools to identify root causes from design,production, test, field environments.

Responsibilities
· Hands-on failure analysis of high voltage power devices.
· Optical microscopy CSAM.
· Electrical physical FA including curve tracing cross-sectioning.
· Maintenance of lab tools consumables.
· Design build custom PCBA, electrical tools, scripts ftesting power semiconductors power converters.
· Characterize power semiconductors power converters performance.
· Collaborate with mechanical, semiconductors firmware engineering teams to successfully validate optimize traction inverters.
Requirements
· BS/MS in Electrical Engineering the equivalent in experience evidence of exceptional ability.
· Many years of hands-on failure analysis experience in high voltage power electronics testing.
· Proficiency with basic EE tools (Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators etc.).
· Familiar with schematic capture power converter circuit simulation tools.
· Good experience with designing analog/digital circuits,including PCBA schematic layout, micro-processors programming.
· Good understanding of switching waveforms, semiconductlosses experience with loss modeling.
· Solid understanding of the theory application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) capacitors (electrolytic, film ceramic) used
fpower conversion.
· Excellent communication skills, both in presentations in writing.
· The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced challenging environment.
Skills are plus
· Experience with high voltage power semiconductselection (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET’s, Diodes), gate driver protection circuit design.
· Knowledge in basic control theory, including importance of sensbandwidths, design of compensation networks.
· Awareness of EMC requirements relevant to the design of power converters.
· Experience in supervision of PCB layout fminimal stray inductance capacitance, placement strategies fbetter manufacturability,power/signal plane definition EMC optimization.
· Knowledge in environmental, reliability, safety requirements fautomotive applications. Working knowledge of Matlab and/Python.
